Remember as a child the joy in playing chase with your friends, or in trying to outpace the incoming waves at the beach? Guess what? You can still experience this same joy, no matter how old you are! The key to lifelong running is using correct technique. As Danny Dreyer, the creator of ChiRunning® states, “it’s not running that’s injures you, it’s how you run!”
As we get older, we might think we are too old to run…we believe we will damage our knees, or other parts of our precious bodies. But this need not be true. If you learn the right way to run, you really can continue to run safely and enjoyably. There are growing numbers of men and women who are running marathons and ultra-marathons well into their 80’s, and even their 90’s.
Whether you want to run for recreation and health only, or compete as well, veteran/masters running is a rapidly growing activity across the world. Check out the World Master Athletics website: http://www.world-masters-athletics.org.
